Dental Veneers are a popular cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance, shape, or size of a tooth. They are thin, semi-translucent laminate that your dentist will permanently bond to the front surface of your teeth. Veneers are custom made per individual patient to ensure a natural looking smile.

Porcelain and Composite Resin are the two most commonly used veneers. The overall quality of porcelain veneers is greater than that of composite resin. They are more durable, natural in appearance, long lasting, and more resistant to stain and discoloration. Composite veneers are not custom made per patient, and they usually have a shorter life expectancy. However, they are financially less expensive.

What can Dental Veneers Restore?

• Chipped and/or broken teeth
• Diastemas (gaps between teeth)
• Misaligned or crooked teeth
• Unsightly, stained, or washed-out fillings
• Discolored teeth immune to bleaching techniques

What to Expect

Porcelain veneers usually require two visits for completion. During your first visit, your dentist will prepare your teeth for the incoming veneer. A portion of your teeth will need to be filed down and trimmed. Once the teeth have been reshaped, an impression of your teeth will be taken. This impression will then be sent out to a dental laboratory for the creation of your permanent veneer. Depending on how much of your natural tooth was removed, you may be fitted with a temporary veneer to protect your teeth between visits.

Once the porcelain veneer has been received by your dental office, your second and final appointment will be scheduled. If you received a temporary veneer at your last appointment it now will be removed, and you will be fitted with the new permanent appliance. Your dentist will make sure that you are comfortable with the fit and happy with the appearance before bonding to teeth. All adjustments should be made prior to bonding.
While they’re not suitable for every patient, porcelain veneers have become a very popular technique to restore a variety of dental conditions involving the front teeth. If this procedure is not suitable for you, there are other smile restoring procedures available.
