Whitening, also referred to as bleaching is a procedure which is designed to lighten the color of your teeth. When done properly, whitening will not harm your teeth or gums. Significant lightening can be achieved in the vast majority of cases, but the RESULTS CANNOT BE GUARANTEED. Whitening, like any other treatment, has some inherent risks and limitations. These are seldom serious enough to discourage you from having your teeth whitened, but should be considered in making a decision to have the treatment.
In addition, there are variables, such as the type of discoloration that affects your teeth, the degree to which you follow our instructions, the overall condition of your teeth, etc., that affect the outcome of treatment.
CANDIDATES FOR WHITENING
Just about anyone is a candidate for whitening. However, people with dark yellow or yellow-brown teeth tend to bleach better than people with gray or bluish-gray teeth. Multicolored teeth, especially if stained due to tetracycline, do not bleach very well. In addition, teeth with many fillings, cavities, chips, etc., are usually best treated by bonding, porcelain veneers, or porcelain crowns.
- Known allergies to carbamide peroxide
- Pregnancy and nursing
What can I do if I have stained or discolored teeth?
Many people achieve a whiter, brighter smile with our simple whitening procedures. And unlike over the counter products, our prescription level products are designed to treat your teeth and gums gently, while achieving the whitest smile possible.
What do you use to whiten smiles?
If you’re like most of Dr. Holt’s patients, you want a simple yet effective method for whitening your smile. For the ultimate in effectiveness, convenience and comfort, we use ZOOM! a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure.
A state-of-the-art in-office whitening system, ZOOM!, (as seen on ABC’s Extreme Makeover) dramatically whitens your teeth in about one hour, making it the perfect choice for the busy individual.
The procedure is simple. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. Then we’ll apply the ZOOM! Whitening Gel, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least six to ten shades whiter, sometimes more. A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. You’ll be amazed with the results. In most cases, teeth get even whiter the first few days after the procedure.
To make the whitening experience even better, Dr. Holt gives all her smile-whitening guests take-home whitening trays and gel. She’ll make an impression of your smile before the in-office process begins, so you’ll have ultimate comfort from trays that were designed to fit your smile.
How long will the results last?
Your bright, new smile should last a very long time, sometimes years before a touch-up is required. The take home kit that is provided with our smile whitening process will give you the freedom and convenience to touch up your smile whenever you wish. Heavy consumption of coffee, tea, colas or other staining agents may accelerate re-staining of your teeth, so you may choose to apply a touch-up application for a session or two.
We take impressions of your teeth and make clear custom trays. We provide you with a special bleaching agent that you put into the clear, almost invisible trays. With only a few hours of wear per day, our special bleaching agent bubbles stains right out of your enamel in a very short time without altering tooth structure or existing dental work in any way. When your teeth reach the brightness you want, only occasional treatment is needed to maintain your new smile. We’ll want to take “after” photos at your next appointment.
Dental bleaching can be used to correct many tooth discolorations. These discolorations may have been caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in bleaching technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a beautiful, “brilliant” smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be the only choice. But because of the low cost of bleaching treatments, bleaching is nearly always worth a try.
